Non Destructive Testing

Magnetic Flux Examination (MFE)

MFE is a volumetric Test to detect under-side corrosion in large steel structures, most commonly on storage tanks. The basic principle is that a powerful magnet is used to magnetize the steel, where the steel has lost material by wear or pitting causes a leakage in the magnetic field that is detected by the instrument.

This leakage is displayed on the instrument panel and its location is marked on the tanks floor so it can be ultrasonically tested to verify the depth of the detected area.
